Prolotherapy

Prolotherapy involves a series of injections that stimulate the body's ability to heal. Prolotherapy initiates a mild, controlled inflammatory response which promotes growth factors and new cell formation. These new cells strengthen the ligaments and tendons, thereby promoting joint stability and reduced pain. Scroll through the information below to learn more about prolotherapy or contact Dr. Gordon directly.

What is Prolotherapy?

Prolotherapy is an injection technique used to treat chronic, musculoskeletal pain. It works by stimulating the body's own healing process to repair injured or weakened tissues. New tissue is formed resulting in strengthening of the effected area.

What Does Prolotherapy Treat?

This treatment may be useful for many different types of chronic pain including:

Back Pain Neck Pain
Shoulder Pain Rotator Cuff
Tendonitis Sprains / Strains
Sports Injuries Sciatica
Tennis Elbow TMJ
Rotator Cuff Injuries Arthritis
Chronic Ankle Sprain Sacrolialiac Pain

Prolotherapy Treats The Cause Of The Problem
Is Not Associated With Side Effects That Commonly Occur With The Use Of Steroids And Other Pain Medications. An Excellent Alternative To Treatments Such As Surgery

What is contained in the injections?
The procedure involves the injection of a dextrose solution and an anesthetic such as lidocaine. Sometimes the doctor will add vitamin B12, glucosamine or a homeopathic medicine to further promote healing. Dr. Gordon will tailor the injection substance according to the patients needs

How do the Injections Work?
The solution causes a localized inflammatory response at the injection site. Your body responds to this by mounting it's natural repair process. Growth factors are stimulated which cause new ligament / tendon growth.

Will the injections hurt?
Prolotherapy can be a painful procedure, but most people find that the discomfort of the injection is totally bearable. The discomfort passes rapidly. Pain from the inflammatory response can be reduced with Tylenol.

What are the side effects?
temporary bruising and a feeling of stiffness / soreness around the injection site are common.

How Many injections are needed?
Typically, 3 - 6. Sessions are spaced 2 - 6 weeks apart.
